Production:
(the process of making music and recording it to a sufficient standard so that it can be sold)
(How this music gets to people and how they know about it)
Exchange:
(What changes hands between the people who own the music, and it's audience in reward for the chance to listen to it)
Questions:
1) Has anything changed in your usage?
Yes, I used to buy my music in store, I wouldn't purchase singles or artist albums, but instead purchase collectional CDs like 'NOW thats what i call music' and 'Top of the Pops'
Now to be honest I illegal download my music through LimeWire (but since that closed down) I use the Youtube Converter. I also (but rarely) purchase singles from the iTunes store.
2) What have been some of the biggest, most successful videos of recent years and why?
Well years ago it would've been Thriller, everyone has watched that! And i feel because of that video many other artists of the 21st century have been inspired to copy it, like Lady Gaga, her music videos like Telephone lasts as long as 12 minutes, with narrative features as well as choreographed dances and bizarre scenes with outrageous outfits! People these days are becoming soo Avante Garde, weird is becoming the trend!
3) How does what you do benefit record companies or musicians?
I wouldn't necessarily say im benefitting much as i illegally download, however i do share music to my friends on Facebook as well as the word of mouth, i guess you could im helping promote the artist around. Also some of my friends do purchase songs from iTunes and music stores like HMV. Doing this they are helping the artist becoming well known and bigger, increasing the fan base - this helping the record companies gain profit in sales through the artist.
