- Music videos are usually around 4 minutes long, (the worlds shortest music video is 4 seconds long, Collateral Damage by Brutal Truth. Yes this is actually on the Guinness Book of Records.) Not to worry, hopefully none of us A2 media students would want to beat that by a second shorter. And the worlds longest would have to be the well known song Thriller by the man himself, Mr Michael Jackson lasting over 13 minutes!!
- Usually in a music video a story is told. The chorus in the song should provide a structure.
- The main character/characters are most likely to to be the artist(s) themselves. If not then professional actors and actresses as well as models (these music videos also aim to promote these people)
- It is important for the artists to stick to the main conventions of the genre.
- When it comes videoing, a good use of camera work is essential. Close ups to promote the artist or establish who the main subject(s) is/are.
- Editing is very important, especially if they go to the beat. Edits such as jump cuts, unusual transitions and slow motion are most commonly used.
- Not forgetting that the artist, song and album names are given at the beginning and end of the video.
- Sometimes the production name and record producers name are mentions either at the beginning but most likely at the end of the video.
