The Music Industry

We all know that the music industry has changed hugely in the last 10 years. These are some of the things that have changed in the past 10 years.

Production-The process of making music and recording it to a sufficient standard so that it can be sold:
Then: Small Record Studio and would use maunal analogues like cds
Now: Music is now digital and hi tech, we have computers to download music and we alos have artifical computer.

Distribution- How this music gets to people and how do they know about it:
The: Word of mouth, or you would buy your records or cds at your local record store. You would hear from radio dj's such a John Peel or Tim Westwood who would play the latest releases on the radio.
Now: Again word of mouth or you can now download music from a number of different website such as itunes. You can also buy cds from shops such a HMV. Another way music is distributed is from social networking sites such as facebook. Or you can also get music from YouTube, and YouTubes partnerships like SB TV and YouTube channels.

Exchange- What changes hands between the people who own the music, and its audience in rewards for the chance to listen to it:
Then: Money for cds or you were able to burn cds, tapes and mix tapes.
Now: You have illegal downloading and legal downloading.

I personally get my music by either downloading it from websites such as itunes or I buy my music from Hmv.
