Cheryl Cole:
Cheryl Cole's music is very similar to Pixie Lott's. They both go under the genre of Pop.
What stays the same in all of Cheryl's album covers is her face as the artwork on the album and of course her name.
I've decided to analyse this album cover of Cheryl's which comes from her 2009 album 3 Words.
- Completely stripped down from colour. Black & White.
- Simple background
- Sophisticated image, headpiece is delicate and feminine represented her femininity.
- Fancy script writing of her name and album name. Script font also very feminine.
- She gives eye contact.
What i love about this album cover is the way she models. She is turned to her side to hide parts of her body, the headpiece also hides away her face - making the album seem more mysterious and sort of like a tease "you want me? come and get me" sort of thing. I'd like to take the way she presents herself to camera further into my development.
Pixie Lott:
It is essential to analyse album covers from the artist we have chosen as she is the closest our artist 'Charlie Jayne' can relate to.
These album covers are pretty much similar to Cheryl Coles as Pixie's face is in all of them. What remains the same in the first two albums are the fonts. This could be her signature image to distinguish her from the industry. However the font changes in the third album - she also has a whole new look so its harder to spot on the shelves (if people were to look for her album).
- What i absolutely love about this album cover is the FONT used to spell Pixie Lott. Its unique, and very likely that no other artist uses the same font. Making this font her 'Signature'. I would like to create my own font as well for Charlie Jaynes album.
- I also like the way Pixie Models, she looks very innocent and quirky her messy hair gives off the impression that she has a fun and chilled personality. And so when 'music explorers' come across her album they would expect Pop kind of music, related to love. Just by looking at the image you can sort of feel that her voice will be ditzy and soft.
- The album is pretty simple, there is no album name mentioned.
- The colour and size of the font really helps the album stand out on the shelves.
Sophie Ellis Bextor:
I would have to say that i LOVE Sophie Ellis Bextor's album covers the most. Maybe is because she's soo stunning, but im pretty sure its how they are creatively set out.
I'm not even sure if this is an actually album cover but i'll analyse it anyway.
- Two colours used as colour scheme, its kept simple and the blue really helps to make the black and white image stand out.
- I also like how the blue is layered over the image like splatted paint, im very interesting to take this further into my development.
- Her name and album name are simple and medium sized - would be quite hard to spot but i like it this way. I think if the fonts were any bigger or anymore fancier it would've spoiled the image.
- For some reason i also like where the text is placed, pretty random but it works!
So after analysing 3 album covers from artists very similar to our Charlie Jayne, i have come to an overall conclusion that I will definitely take photography into consideration - although i am more keen on doing art work (make my album cover look more arty [just like CJ]) - The blue splatted paint on S.E.B album cover gave me this idea.
However if i do use photography then I will pose in the sort of manner as all 3 of these artists.
