Production of Music Video: SKILLS DEVELOPMENT. COMPARING LAST YEAR TO THIS YEAR.

I must say, I have learnt A LOT this year compared to last year. From time managing to editing skills, i have improved significantly. Its quite funny actually - i did less work last year compared to now and last year there was only three of us in a group whereas this year im in a group of five!

Time Managing:

Last year: We concentrate soo much in blogging that we practically pushed filming to the corner of the room, our filming was last minute and so not to the best of our potential abilities. Our time management was soo poor, we were too caught up in other subjects and as there was only three of us it was essential for us to work together. We were the last group to tick our names off the list.

This year: Big improvement! We balanced both blogging and filming equally, had a lot of time to capture great quality shots. Although there was five in our group, we managed to find (not one) but TWO days in a week where we could all film + we had the weekends! We were the 23rd group to tick our names off the list :)

Organisation:

Last year: Although the time management was poor we kept pretty organised with our planning. When we found free days to film we would make a plan on what we were going to do on that day. However a majority of the time we did not stick to the plan and improvised most of our filming. Our blogs show thorough planning of our thriller with moodboards and storyboards.

This year: I have been very organised this year, I texted the girls constantly about plans to film. I kept them updated all the time. I always made lists and reminders. I stuck to the plans (especially for editing) and kept to the schedules. This is a big improvement from last year as i actually took charge and was always one step ahead of myself.

Skills:

Last year: To be frankly honest, i did not participate much with the equipments and programmes. As i was the actress I did not have much experience with the JVC camera, the only time i held it was when I was shooting some cut away shots (which were exceptional). As for the editing i only participated by directing my fellow group memeber Nick, this is because i was not confident enough with the programme Final Cut and i relied too much on Nick as he was very confident. Also we started editing two days before the deadline so he thought it was best he did the editing himself whilst Wala and I just blogged.
However I was in charge of the sound, I had no knowledge of how to use SoundtrackPro but i did what i was told. It took me approximately 5 minutes to create a soundtrack (which Nick absolutely loved). The great thing i learnt from last year was that I can adapt very quickly to things. I know this now and so i took this skill to my A Levels.

This year: I gained much more confidence in myself - now knowing that i had quick adaptation skills, I took the courage to be the head editor. Being a photograph student as well i had some knowledge with the programme Photoshop which is in a way similar to FinalCut Pro, i familiarised myself with the icons and it turned out to be easy. I got the basics within an hour. I even spelt a whole editing day working our some special effects which we managed to include in our music video. I sat back this time for the soundtrack. Instead we had Sophie and Zara work with SoundtrackPro to create non diegetic music for the beginning of the music video.
So this year I participated more in the group work.
