Planning for Music Video: MUSIC VIDEOS THAT INSPIRE OUR CONCEPT.

There are many music videos that I have come across which can paint a fairly clear image of what our music video could be like. Not that we will copyright some of these music videos, they just spark an idea which we can develop further.

The following videos either contain, camera work, editing, mise-en-scene and introductions I find inspiration which could be considered into the video.

Camera Work and Editing, Mise en Scene (lighting only).

Breakeven - The Script.

Introduction.

Thinking Of You - Katy Perry.

You've probably already noticed that in 'Use Somebody' Pixie Lott sings straight away, the same goes for Katy Perry's 'Thinking Of You.' I've noticed in Perry's music video she adds a short introduction before she starts singing (even before the music is played) between 0:00 - 0:13 seconds in on the video, the camera shoots a pair of shoes, a crucifix and a clock before Perry is shown. The use of adding diegetic sound as well (which is 'sound on set') makes the video seem more realistic, also sensing a storyline ahead. This use of an introduction really interested and i feel it would make a great difference to our music video if we add one. It would be nice to do a camera Cut In (camera work) on objects in the first scene of the video (my room) - so like a clock, the journal and the guitar would be good, then the diegetic sound of the clock ticking and the bedcovers ruffling. This will give the audience time to grasp where the artist and actor are before the music and Pixie Lott (me) starts singing the "oh woah, oh woah" part which starts straight away!

Mise en Scene (lighting & setting)

The One You Say Goodnight To - Kina Grannis

As for Kina Grannis' music video, it is the mise en scene that I am very keen and inspired by. The setting is very natural and rural which can partially represent her personality if being naturally beautiful. This does not mean that we will be copying the setting she uses, but maybe follow the idea of contrasting the setting to the characters.
Her body language is something that the singer (Pixie Lott mimer) should consider copying, as her personality is very similar to the character in our video.
Also the artist will be performing around with a guitar so she must learn how to lip sing as well as string sync.
