Analysis of 3 music videos that have inspired me..

I would have to say that when it came to choosing 3 music videos that have inspired me, I found this quite hard as in a way there could be many music videos that have inspired in me whether it was from the editing to the way they filmed the music video. We are not going to copy the music video we just take an idea from a music video and develop it further but put our own spin on it, that way we are not copying it. In the end I made a decision and picked three music video that inspired me for all different reasons.

The first music video that has inspired me would have to be Avril Lavigne's- Smile.

I would say this music video inspired me through its editing but also through the storyline of the whole music video. As the storyline in this music video is quite similar to the storyline of our music video. I mean because in Avril Lavigne's Smile she is acting as a guardian for people who have been heartbroken by a guy or a girl. Intially this wasnt a video that had inspired me but after watching this music video after we had made our decision of what the whole concept of our music video was going to be about I realised that our music video was going to be similar to our music video. Another reason why this music video inspires me is because of the editing which is used I mean the music video is shown through colour whereas it is alos shown through black and white. I really like the idea of filming our video in black and white as I think it would really help set the mood for the song that it is quite dark and depressing.

                                            Avril Lavigne's - Smile

Another music video that has inspired me is Ed Sheerhan's - A team.

This music video has inspired me through its use of mise en scene but also because this music video has a lot of similarities to the music video we are going to make. What I really like about the mise en scene in this video is the fact they have used so many locations, I mean they have used a park, street, shopping centre, train station, car park and a flat. Even though we wont be using as many locations as this music video we will be using a few locations such as a house, street and a park. I also really like the editing in the music video I mean they have again used the black and white concept, which is again drawing on my point of setting the mood for the song but it is also making the music video more realistic. This music video is similar to our music video as this music video is about a girl who is struggling in her life and cant find an escape route, so she decides to run away from all the trouble in her life. The main similaritie between ur music video is that again in our music video a girl is quite lonely and depressed so she decides to run away to get away from her troubles. BUt before she runs away she wanders the streets of London and goes and sits in the park.

The last music video that has inspired me would have to be Cold Play's- Fix You.

The reason why I chose this video was because even though it is a sad song, its a song that a lot of people can relate to at some point in their life. The reason why I would say that this is an inspiration to the making of my music videos is because of the whole camera angles used in the music video. I mean there is a range of different camera angles used, a camera shot which is used over and over again in this video is the close up. This is significant to our music video because we will be trying to use a range of different shots types to keep the audience interested. A favourite shot type we will be using is the close up, we will use the close up more than other camera shots becuase I think a close up really shows the person at their best, I mean they havent got anything to hide from and will be showing their true and raw emotion. Another reason why I like this music video is because of the props that are used in this video. I mean they use a swinging light, which I think is significant because of the lyrics "lights will guide you home." When it comes to making our music video we will also be using props such as a guitar and a journal, these are also significant to our music video as they will show or portray the innonence and the loneliness of the young girl.
