Planning for Music Video: MOODBOARD FOR THE CHARACTERS IN OUR VIDEO.

In class we were asked to create a quick moodboard that will present a clear understanding to the type of people our characters (appearance wise, style, hobbys and interest) are going to be in our music video of Pixie Lott's cover of Use Somebody.

I have created two moodboards as more than one person will be starring in the video.

Future Music Domination

There are 4 major labels who are owned by universal music group, Sony music,  EMI group and Warner group. Most successful artists are signed by these labels or sister labels. As time has moved on I have noticed a lot of change to the music industry and how music is been sold specially to younger people and with my experience I can say that most do illegal downloading from the internet.
I think that in about 10+ years/ 21st century  there will have to be some major changes to the music industry and the new generation coming up will be doing the same illegal downloading as we do now, meaning less money to the industry to produce more artists and songs.

Simple But Eye Catching

I was flicking through the music channels and came across a new music video by jessie j called who you are and i was really intrigued by it, as it was so simple but yet really caught my attention. The way in which she performed was very convincing and showed a lot of emotion to bring life into the video since there isn’t anything else in the video except probs in a room. Another thing that was great was the fact that the sentence “looking at myself in the mirror” transferred into the video making us (the audience) look at her from the mirrors point of view. The lighting, rain and wind scene was also very dramatic and worked well with the climax of the song.

About The Music Industry 2011/Importance of a music video

In this day audiences are targeted the most through music videos, allowing them to see the artists looks, style and personality, it also allows them to promote the single and perform. It mostly targets the audience by the genre of music and controversy of the music video which can go viral online through social networking, word to mouth and can get a lot of air play on TV. Audiences of all ages can get attracted to music videos and can bring pleasure to them sometimes through image (style and look) and sex, which then leeds to fans.
With out music videos I don’t think music would make a impact to the audience as much and wouldn’t give the music industry a excuse to produce and sell your stereotypical ‘good looking’ artist which makes money. For example teen pop star justin bieber.

Final Song Choice

The reason we choose the song was because it was a challenge to edit and not able to do e.g fast jump cuts, but it would be interesting to make a story out of it. Its also very slow and we are able to incorporate good paced edits so it can be clear to understand and absorb. 

The song its self is very calm and quite emotional aswell so we all had a soft spot for it =)

Throughout the course of A2 since AS research has been very interesting learning how to use technology used to make media what it is today. One would be the camera work but this time in more detail, learning about the skills that are used to portray different stories and advertise the artist from edit structures that are placed into 3 categories for music videos (making storyboard). For example vide: base track; editing in time with music; camera moving in time with music.
Another would be learning current music trends of how the music industry has moved on and the technology to across to the audience and fans through social networking and advertising on TV, magazines and radio.  Skills of the cover art will also be very important to attract the audience and show personality and genre of the artist and music
